Simple and Easy Microwave Repair Tips

A microwave oven is a common household appliance. Sometimes it simply refuses to work and will leave us confused and wondering what went wrong. Here are some common problems that can occur with the oven and a few microwave repair tips to resolve them.

Sometimes your microwave will not switch on. The first thing to check is the plug. Ensure that it is plugged in properly and the door is correctly closed and aligned. If there is a blown fuse you can replace that or reset a tripped circuit breaker. Turn the switch on. If it does not work then there might be other issues or you may have to contact a professional.

If the microwave keeps blowing fuses or tripping a breaker check its door switch. Find the door switches and take off the leads. Probe the terminus using a volt ohm meter. When the door is open the reading has to be infinity and when closed it should be zero. If these readings are not correct, replace the switch and check again.

Sometimes the diode or the capacitor may be bad. Test the capacitor using the voltmeter. The reading should gradually increase to infinity. Test again by reversing the probes. The reading should be the same. If it is not, it is damaged. Similarly, test the diode as well. The two readings have to be opposite. If they are not you need to replace them. But if you are not able to identify the problem, you need to call a professional.

The carousel may not turn sometimes. It is driven by a small motor and is not related to the heating function. You have to check the plastic drive coupling on which the tray is found and also the ring and roll assembly. You have to open the microwave cabinet to fix it.

If you feel that the microwave cooks unevenly or relatively slowly, examine the voltage at the power supply. If it's less than 115 the trouble is with the electrical service. A bad motor can also cause the problem. To check this, remove the grill at the bottom and check using the voltmeter after setting it to RX1 and removing a lead from the terminals of the motor. You will have to replace the motor if the reading is infinity. Even the wave guide and the magnetron can cause problems.

The touchpad may work erratically or not work at all. If by any chance your touch pad has become wet, let it dry properly. Do not spray any cleaning liquid near it. If you have insects in your kitchen, check for infestation by insects. They are most likely to appear under clear surfaces and in between the circuit boards to feel the warmth. Cover the vents by placing a window mesh to keep away insects.

If you still are unable to fix your microwave or find some other persisting problems you should contact a microwave repair professional for assistance.

5 Tips on How to Lose Weight and Look Your Best EASILY!

5 Tips to help you lose weight and look your best EASILY!

We all want to look and feel our best, but quite often its knowing where to start. So, to welcome us all to 2010 and a new decade I thought I'd compile a short report on 5 EASY tips to help kick start us all and get us back on track for a healthy vibrant year.

1. SUPERFOODS

Don't be put off, I'm thinking about our common everyday foods that are in fact serious weapons in our fat busting armory. Things like -

Water

Green Tea

Apples and pears

Oatmeal

Broccoli

Low-Fat Yogurt

Grapefruit

Hot Peppers

Lean Beef, Pork, Chicken, and Turkey (lean protein - tofu will also count)

Salmon, Tuna, and Sardines (omega 3 which you can also get from flax seeds)

Home made Soup

All these foods (and I do include water as a food) help boost our metabolism so our body burns more energy. These are furnace stokers so to speak. Some can be eaten throughout the day when we feel in need of a snack as they also help fill us, yet are low in calories. Some of them have the incredible ability to help clear us of toxins, such as the water and apples. I have gone through these foods and others in other reports - just sign up for the free e-letter each week to ensure you receive them.

Oh, and the occasional red wine or real ale won't hurt - just don't go over board and they are high in empty calories and, obviously, contain alcohol which does stimulate the appetite as well as taxing the liver.

2. EXERCISE

Okay, I know, not everyone gets off on getting hot and sweaty after jogging around the block a couple of times. But exercise doesn't have to be boring or 'hard work'. It can be as fun as dancing round the lounge to your favorite group or learning a bit of martial arts - and before you start quaking at visions of ninja warriors, Tai Chi is also a martial art.

Exercise boosts the metabolic rate, improves circulation, increases bone density, tones and strengthens the muscles, burns calories among many, many, other things. Just 20 mins a day can make the world of difference.

Here are some ideas to get you looking at how exercise can fit into your life

Swimming - lengths of a pool, aqua aerobics....

Dancing - ballroom, disco, salsa, belly, front room...

Running, Jogging, brisk walking

Vigorous Housework - hovering, dusting, ironing

Working in the garden, digging, weeding

Walking the dog, walking to work, walking up the stairs, running away from the dog...(or the children...)

Joining a class - Tai chi, yoga, Pilates

Joining a gym, using light weights

Making love

Anything that causes us to move is a form of exercise, so if you have little time incorporate walking into your day, stop off after work for a class once a week. Exercise also invigorates and strengthens you, so after a very short while you should see the benefits. If you are a solitary type take up walking, jogging or front room/ bedroom dancing.

Ideally 20 mins a day and a couple of 1 hour periods a week will help keep you in tip top condition.

3. SPRING CLEAN

Not many people mention this, but your home does makes a big difference when you are trying to lose a bit of weight. When things are disorganised around us we tend to become less focused and more disorganized ourselves. A good spring clean and clear up not only boosts the calories burnt but it also helps make space for us to clean ourselves up internally. It makes us more comfortable - when there is a level of chaos around us it is far harder to concentrate on ourselves and our needs and far easier to slip back to old habits. Also, by taking charge of our surroundings, it is usually far easier to take charge of ourselves.

4. SLEEP

Getting enough sleep is essential. When you start changing your eating habits and exercising, your body needs to rest more to rebuild itself and rejuvenate. A positive change in diet will cause the body to initially start clearing out rubbish, so coughs, colds, feeling cold and feeling a little more tired than usual is to be expected. Try not to turn to pharmaceuticals to suppress the symptoms of a bit of a cold as this will just stuff the junk back down again. Try something more like honey, lemon and hot water to soothe any cold like symptoms. And rest. It helps the body clear out this junk and rebuild itself into a stronger fresher model. Normally, as you progress and your body becomes lighter and clearer you will start needing less sleep.

5. EAT MORE!

Yes, you read this right, eat more! By that I mean frequent highly nutritious meals and snacks. Do not skip meals. You will not lose weight by starving yourself, in fact, the exact opposite will occur as the body will start storing. A bowl of fruit and cereal (oats/muesli etc) with low fat yogurt in the morning, a large portion of veg/salad, (without the mayo...!) lean protein like lean meat, fish, tofu and a jacket spud (without the cheese and butter!), a plate of wholegrain rice with vegetables and lean protein, and snacks from our super foods list with a couple of liters of water a day will have you losing weight in no time. If you can't stand plain water (bottled or filtered is best - NOT tap) try squeezing a little citrus juice into it, lemon or orange. In fact a glass of warm water with the juice of half a lemon in it drank first thing in the morning is very cleansing and would start the day off perfectly. Or even better a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass of warm water, cut with a teaspoon of honey.

Some people find it tough during the day - take your lunch and snacks with you. Make up a rice salad, a thermos of homemade soup or a meal you can pop in the microwave -microwaving food is not ideal as it does deplete the food of nutrients, but is still a lot better than snacking on sandwiches and crisps...

If you love veg take some veg like carrot, celery, tomatoes, and cucumbers and make a dip out of low fat yogurt and chives or cottage cheese.

Experiment and have fun with your food, but steer clear of the high fat/high sugar, processed stuff.

Was a Stainless-Steel Microwave-Oven a Big Mistake?

I have ditched my out-of-date kitchen and its major appliances for a sleek new contemporary decor style with every modern convenience at my finger-tips, right down to the cherry-on-the-top stainless steel microwave oven as my final acquisition item, to die for.

The microwave oven of my choice had to be stainless steel medium in keeping with all my other electrical appliances. The added advantage also being that, should I wish to change the kitchen's color scheme values in the future, I would not have to replace expensive equipment again, as durable stainless steel is a perfect coordinate, easily lending itself to any proposed color spectrum.

Because my previous microwave has given me such good service over the years, I was prejudiced to remain with the same branded name for the sake of reliability. I have found their very latest model in a top of the range category giving me the versatility in both, microwave energy and convection cooking At long last I now have that second capacity oven. What a bonus. I could not accommodate a full dinner menu before when I needed to do a roast and a pudding bake, for the want of having; an additional oven for this convenience.

I particularly like the easy flow aesthetic appeal of built-in appliance equipment that my new contemporary kitchen is allowing me. For this reason I was enabled to come away from a counter-top microwave oven model, for a built-in microwave oven model available in my favorite brands top of the range selection category. Actually, when it comes down to it, the best choice is the only choice, if you can afford it.

My initial prejudice regarding stainless steel though was in the fact that I thought I could become rather irritated if I had to contend with finger smudge markings remaining to have me continually buffing and shinning surfaces but I was pleasantly surprised to find that the model of my choice addressed this issue entirely, featuring an exclusive surface finish, by design.

Another unexpected safety feature is that my new stainless steel microwave oven has a hidden touch control panel situated behind the oven's door out of the way of small children's curiosity and poking fingers. They've thought of everything!

At a stretch of the imagination I thought "where will I find what I want at the price my budget will allow" and furthermore "how can I be sure I will get the guarantee in the customer service quality I am expecting".

I did the obvious thing and went online for this valuable information at a website I habitually utilize for such satisfaction. Biz Rate online facilitates in products and services recommendations by connecting the scrutinized supplier - to the discerning consumer, in their thousands. A convenient online source of inquiry and direction for your particular locality, nationwide!

To want what I want, at the best possible price, for all the right reasons, I declare that I am more than satisfied with my top-of-the-range, stainless steel microwave oven. I am now happily turning into a gourmet cook experimenting with my ovens' versatility in such clever technology, even I, as a technologically disadvantaged being can so easily understand and advance through.

Microwave Ovens and the Healthfulness of Microwaved Food

Microwave ovens do have benefits. They are certainly convenient. They

are more energy-efficient than other cooking methods. But are they

safe? And do they produce food that contributes to the health of our

bodies?

While there is not enough evidence to require warning labels on

microwave ovens, or to remove them from the market, there is concern

both about the safety of our exposure to microwaves and the

healthfulness of microwaved food.

THE DANGERS OF MICROWAVES

Even microwave ovens that are functioning perfectly emit microwaves.

Safety standards set by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

allow microwave emissions of up to one milliwatt per square centimeter

(1mW/cm2) when the oven is purchased, and up to 5mW/cm2 after the

oven has been in use. Studies on industrial exposure recommend that

daily exposure should not exceed one milliwatt for more than one

minute. Average home use of microwave ovens far exceed this.

Workers who are exposed to microwaves on the job experience

headaches, fatigue, irritability, sleep disturbances and other symptoms.

HOW MICROWAVES AFFECT FOOD

Advocates of microwaved food claim that it is healthier because it

retains vitamins, but the University of Minnesota disagrees:

"Microwaves ... are not recommended for heating a baby's

bottle...Heating the bottle in a microwave can cause slight changes in

the milk. In infant formulas, there may be a loss of some vitamins. In

expressed breast milk, some protective properties may be destroyed....

Warming a bottle by holding it under tap water or by setting it in a bowl

of warm water...is much safer".

If heating formula in a microwave can cause it to lose vitamins and

protective properties in breast milk to be destroyed, then it can do the

same to the foods we eat. While the effects may not be immediately

observable, a regular diet of microwaved food may have long-term

health consequences.

Two Swiss researchers found that microwave cooking changes food

nutrients significantly. Blood samples taken from eight individuals

immediately after eating microwaved food revealed, among other

things, an increase in the number of white blood cells--often a sign of

poisoning.

Safety tips for using microwave ovens

I personally have never had a microwave oven in my own kitchen and

am finding that it had been difficult to get people to give up their

microwave ovens. Some of the generation who grew up with microwave

ovens apparently don't know any other way to heat food (really!).

If you choose to use a microwave oven, Consumer Reports magazine

suggests you stay as far as possible from the oven while it is in

operation.

In addition, operate and maintain the oven in ways that minimize

leakage:

* make sure the oven door closes properly

* prevent damage to hinges, latches, sealing surfaces and the door

itself, and make sure these are in good working order

* make sure no soil or food residues accumulate around the door seal

* avoid placing objects between the sealing surfaces.

For peace of mind, test your oven for leakage. Testers can be purchased

online.

When cooking in a microwave, use heat-resistant glass, not plastic. The

Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) of the USDA warns against using

foam trays, plastic wraps, and cold-storage containers such as

margarine tubs, whipped-topping bowls and cottage cheese cartons.

According to the FSIS flyer "A Microwave Handbook," these containers

"are not heat stable at high temperatures. They can melt or warp from

the food's heat, possible causing chemicals to migrate into the food."
